Young Bay Hospitals Charity fund-raisers invited for VIP hospital tour

Written by on 10/03/2021

Two young fund-raisers from Barrow who have donated more than £3,000 to Bay Hospitals Charity have been invited for a VIP tour of Furness General Hospital.

Emme-Rose Deakin, 6, ran a mile a day in January, raising £1,443 for the charity.

Then in February, eight-year-old Lilli-Mae Archer took on a 5K a day challenge and raised a further £1,705.

And to say thank you for their fund-raising efforts, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Executive Sue Smith OBE has invited Emme-Rose and Lilli-Mae to visit the hospital for a tour.

Sue said: “We’re so grateful to Emme-Rose and Lilli-May for everything they’ve done.

“We’re very proud of their achievements and we hope that they are too. It’s wonderful to see such young children doing their part to support the NHS.

“As a special thank you to both girls, we would like to invite them, when it’s safe, to visit the hospital so we can thank them in person and show them how the funds they have raised have been spent.”

Emme-Rose was inspired to fund-raise for the hospital by the Covid-19 pandemic, and smashed her initial target of £150.

Dad Phill said: “Emme-Rose has done really well and is proud of how much she’s raised. We’ve framed her T-shirt and the story about her in the newspaper so she can remember how well she has done.”

Lilli-Mae bravely continued her challenge after a tumble from a climbing frame, eventually clocking up 91 miles and passing her £1,400 fund-raising target.

Mum Stephanie said: “She’s done brilliantly and we’re so proud of her.”

This was Lilli-Mae’s second fund-raising effort for Bay Hospitals Charity. In June last year she raised £1,545 by cycling 53 miles in a week.

As well as the tour of the hospital, both children will receive certificate of achievement to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
