Strike To Hit Local Rail Services

Written by on 13/03/2017

Rail services around Morecambe Bay and the South Cumbria will be severely disrupted or non-existent today (Monday 13th March) due to strike action.

Members of the RMT union are walking out in a dispute with operator Northern Rail over a planned increase in driver-only-operated trains.

The union says it will make trains more dangerous.

Northern says, across its network in the north of England, 40% of its train service will run today but that’s nowhere near the case for local commuters and passengers.

You can find today’s much-reduced timetables by checking the Northern rail website clicking here.

There’ll be just four trains operating running from Barrow to Lancaster and back.

Replacement buses will be in operation on the Lakes line between Windermere and Oxenholme.

There’ll be no trains or replacement bus services between Morecambe and Lancaster.

The roads are expected to be busy as people avoid the trains.
