Rogue Traders – Fish Sellers – Sedbergh
Written by John Williamson on 18/10/2017
Cumbria Trading Standards have received reports of fish sellers operating from a van, cold calling in the Sedbergh area of Cumbria.
They may also be visiting other areas in the county.
Please be wary and report any uninvited fish salesmen operating within Cumbria to Trading Standards.
Fish sellers visiting Cumbria are known to engage in cold calling activities asking residents to purchase large amounts of frozen fish on the doorstep.
This fish is generally of poor quality, unrefrigerated and short weight. Doorstep sellers often demand a cash or cheque payment and can be very persuasive in their selling techniques.
Cumbria Trading Standards and Cumbria Police advice is simple; don’t let uninvited doorstep sellers of any kind into your home.
Often these sellers prey on the most vulnerable who are less likely to refuse what may appear to be a bargain.
For all your goods and services it is better to deal with reputable traders operating out of fixed premises who you know and trust.
If you or someone you know is faced with fish sellers or other cold callers please contact Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 04 05 06 or visit www.adviceguide.org.uk
