Liam Neeson apologises again for revealing he wanted ‘to kill a black man’

Liam Neeson has issued a new apology over comments he made about seeking revenge on a random black person after a friend was raped 40 years ago.

The Hollywood actor made the comments in February during an interview with The Independent and was later forced to apologise, saying he was not a racist.

In a fresh statement on Friday, he said he was sorry for the “hurtful and divisive” comments that “do not reflect, in any way, my true feelings nor me”.

He added that he has had time to reflect on his “unacceptable thoughts and actions at that time”.

The star ended his statement by saying: “I profoundly apologise.”

Neeson caused outrage after he admitted he had reacted to the rape of a close female friend by arming himself with a cosh weapon on the streets and hoping a black person would “have a go” at him so he could kill them.

Following the comments, many called for his films to be boycotted and for the Irish actor to be stripped of his OBE.

He later appeared on US breakfast show Good Morning America to confront the backlash and confessed he had sought help from a priest at the time.

“I had never felt this feeling before, which was a primal urge to lash out,” he said.

Neeson said he would have felt the same if his friend had been raped by anyone else and he was trying to stand up for her in a “terrible, medieval fashion”.

“I’m a fairly intelligent guy and that’s why it kind of shocked me when I came down to Earth after having these horrible feelings. Luckily, no violence occurred, ever,” he added.
