England v South Africa: Watch the pick of the third day’s play at The Oval

Written by on 30/07/2017

Keaton Jennings posted his highest score of the Test summer as England built a lead of 252 over South Africa at The Oval.

Click on the video above to see how Jennings (34no) and Tom Westley (28no) took England to 74-1 in their second innings before rain stopped play midway through the afternoon session on day three and forced an early abandonment.

The pair pressed home England’s advantage after debutant Toby Roland-Jones (5-57) took the one wicket he needed to become the first player since Graham Onions in 2009 to take five or more wickets in their debut bowling innings for England.

South Africa resumed on 126-8, some 227 runs in arrears, and avoided the follow-on thanks to a 47-run stand between Morne Morkel (17) and Temba Bavuma (52), who reached his eighth Test fifty off 111 balls.

Bavuma had just one minor scare on 40, when Ben Stokes almost pulled off the most brilliant of catches at gully, flinging himself to his left to intercept a skewed drive off Stuart Broad – with the total on 148.

Alastair Cook (seven) was bowled by a cracking delivery from Morne Morkel when England batted again and Jennings was dropped by Dean Elgar at slip when he had six.

Live coverage of the third Test between England and South Africa – in association with Sky Ocean Rescue – continues on Sky Sports Cricket and across our digital platforms.
