Broner vs Garcia: Katie Taylor is on the verge of a world title shot, says promoter Eddie Hearn

Written by on 31/07/2017

After an impressive showing in Brooklyn, Katie Taylor is just one fight away from a world title, according to her promoter Eddie Hearn.

The Irish star continued her unbeaten start life in the professional ranks by stopping Jasmine Clarkson on her American debut at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday.

The fight marked Taylor’s sixth win from as many fights and Hearn now believes she is ready for a tilt at major honours and has earmarked November as her time to do so.

"It is difficult getting her matched, but I think we are one fight away from challenging for a world title," Hearn told Sky Sports.

"It’s important to get there sooner rather than later, to keep her motivated and switched on. The next step is quite a big step, going from fringe world level to facing a real world champion, but she is good enough to do it.

"This week was all about bringing her to America and getting exposure here. I was proud seeing her in the ring in Brooklyn.

"She has come a long way, her amateur achievements are incredible and she has boxed on some major shows in the UK and now boxed in America.

"It was a very good performance and she showed her class. Clarkson was game and up for trading on ropes, but ultimately her corner realised she was taking too much punishment and pulled her out.

"We are looking at September again for Taylor, maybe on the NXTGEN show at York Hall or maybe an international card again out here.

"Then in November I want to see her challenge for a world title, hopefully on the Joshua-Klitschko rematch card."
