WWE NXT stars surprise Manchester Arena attack victim with championship belt

Written by on 07/06/2017

Stars from the world of international wrestling have made a surprise visit to an eight-year-old fan injured in the Manchester bombing.

Lily Harrison was treated in hospital for serious shrapnel wounds after the attack and while recovering at home in Manchester a group of WWE NXT celebrities called in to say hello.

Lily, who shares her dad’s love of wrestling, beamed as one of the sport’s champions, Bobby Roode, led fellow stars into her living room.

When they asked how she was feeling, she replied: "I felt sick a few minutes ago but now I don’t!"

While recovering in hospital, Lily received a visit from Ariana Grande but the eight-year-old admitted feeling nervous meeting her wrestling idols.

Among many other gifts, she was presented with a wrestling champion’s belt.

Out of respect for those affected by the atrocity, wrestling organisation WWE NXT cancelled an event due to take place at Manchester Arena.

It has offered fans tickets for another event and is making a donation to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

Canadian wrestler Bobby Roode told Sky News: "We like to support people like Lily and all the people suffering from what happened over here in Manchester.

"It’s always fun to see people smile."

Lily’s parents were also injured in the blast, but her mother Lauren was able to join the family at the One Love Manchester concert before being taken back to hospital.

The eight-year-old’s father said the family has tried to stay upbeat since the attack.

Adam Harrison said: "We don’t spend too much time worrying about times gone by. There’s nothing we can do about it now.

"Luckily our daughter is a shining example… Lily is brilliant. She’s my best mate at the end of the day.

"That’s what I said to the surgeon as she was taken to theatre: ‘Please make sure you take care of her…that’s my best pal’."
