Woman arrested at Southend Airport over ‘attack on easyJet cabin crew during flight’

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting cabin crew during an easyJet flight from Spain to the UK.
Essex Police said it arrested the 49-year-old passenger shortly after midnight on Sunday after the plane landed at Southend Airport from Malaga.
According to The Sun, the plane had to make an emergency landing after the passenger was held down by three female members of the cabin crew.
An Essex Police spokesperson said the force was contacted following reports that “a passenger on an in-flight bound to Southend Airport had assaulted cabin crew staff”.
“Officers attended and arrested a 49-year-old woman on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm,” the spokesperson added.
“She has been questioned and released on bail until 27 September.”
In a statement, easyJet said police met the plane on its arrival at Southend Airport and arrested a passenger who was “behaving disruptively”.
“EasyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time,” the airline added.
“Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour on board.
“The safety and well-being of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s priority.”
In a separate incident in February, a Ryanair flight to Malaga had to make an emergency landing in Madrid after reports of a fist fight in aisles of the aircraft.
A passenger on the flight Glasgow was arrested by Spanish police following the incident.
