Woman arrested after boy, 10, dies in dog attack in Looe caravan park

Written by on 14/04/2019

Police have arrested a woman in connection with a fatal dog attack on a 10-year-old boy at a caravan park in Cornwall.

The youngster was found unresponsive by officers inside a caravan at Tencreek Holiday Park in Looe just before 5am, having been attacked by a dog present in the same vehicle.

Emergency services tried to save the boy, who has not yet been named, but he died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

Officers later arrested a 28-year-old woman, 17 miles away in Saltash, on suspicion of manslaughter and having a dog dangerously out of control.

The dog involved, believed to be a bulldog-type breed, was also found and has been taken to kennels.

One witness told the Daily Mirror the park, located on the Cornish coast, was “effectively in lock down” after the incident, but the park’s management has since said it will “remain open offering normal service”.

“Clearly our thoughts are very much with the family involved-they have our deepest sympathies,” Tencreek Holiday Park said a statement.

“Tencreek Holiday Park staff are to be commended in the way they have dealt with a very distressing incident.

“Tencreek Holiday Park management continues to help police with their enquiries.

“The park will remain open offering normal service.”

Holidaymakers rent out static caravans at the park, which also has pitches for tents and motorhomes.

Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sports pitch, kids’ club and a restaurant.

Malcolm Bell, from Visit Cornwall, said the attack was not reflective of holidaying in the county.

“It’s obviously a tragedy and your heart goes out to the family and all those affected,” he said.

“Unfortunately we do have these dog incidents across the whole of the country, unfortunately too frequently, and it’s just happened to be in Cornwall this time.”
