Video: Man with two large knives downed by Taser in Birmingham

Written by on 04/11/2017

Police have released footage of a man being downed by a Taser after brandishing two large knives at officers.

Aron Tesfalem, 20, can be seen marching towards two firearms officers wearing bodycams outside a residential block in Birmingham city centre, where he lived.

They rushed to the building following reports of a man who had stuck two knives into a wooden reception desk.

Staff locked themselves in an office and called police.

In the video the officers can be heard ordering Tesfalem to drop the two large knives about 10 times, as they pointed their guns at him.

He continued to casually walk towards them with the knives for several metres.

The footage then shows him falling flat on his face after being Tasered.

Tesfalem, of William Booth Lane, Birmingham, later told police he was drunk and angry after a laptop he paid £400 for failed to materialise.

He claimed he did not understand the officers’ commands and did not know what he intended to do with the knives.

The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing a bladed article and was jailed for a year by a judge at Birmingham Crown Court.
