In a statement to Billboard, her publicist said they were “heartbroken” by the news and requested privacy for the star’s family.

It added: “Everyone that knew Kylie knew how much she loved her family and, beyond that, how much she loved music.

“The best tribute to her unmatched enthusiasm for both is to spread as much love as you can today, and listen to music that fully inspires you.”

The Twenty Years From Now singer was en route to Taos in New Mexico on Wednesday night to perform at the annual Big Barn Dance Music Festival, when she was involved in a three-vehicle crash.

A 16-year-old girl, who was driving one of the other vehicles, was also killed.

The third driver was unharmed.

Taos County Sheriff’s office said it believed alcohol was involved in the crash, but gave no further details.

Harris’s last tweet, which was posted on Wednesday evening, indicated that she was low on petrol during her drive.

“Fuel range is 46 miles, and I’m 36 from the nearest gas station,” she wrote.

“Dear baby Jesus please don’t let me get stranded in [New Mexico].”

A GoFundMe page has since been set up in memorium for Harris, and has raised more than $25,000 (£20,300) both for funeral costs and as a contribution to a college fund for her six-year-old daughter Corbie.
