Unwanted gifts? First parcels returned at 7am on Christmas Day

Written by on 28/12/2019

The first potentially unwanted Christmas present to be returned was at just 7am on Christmas Day.

Payment systems firm PayPoint has analysed when the first parcels were returned across the UK on 25 December.

It found that when the first parcel was returned to a Collect+ store in Salisbury at 7.02am, it was still dark outside.

Some 38 minutes later, the next parcel was returned in Glasgow at 7.40am.

A total of 419 parcels were returned on Christmas Day through the Collect+ service at local convenience stores.

According to Paypoint, the swiftest returns were:

  • 7.02am – Salisbury, Wiltshire
  • 7.40am – Glasgow
  • 7.43am – Norwich, Norfolk
  • 7.54am – London
  • 8.24am – Bracknell, Berkshire
  • 8.46am – Slough, Berkshire
  • 8.51am – Swindon, Wiltshire
  • 9.27am – London
  • 9.28am – Bury, Lancashire
  • 9.32am – Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Some unhappy gift receivers returned more than one item.

In Enfield, north London, a single person returned seven parcels, while another customer returned six parcels in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Others are already selling their unwanted gifts on eBay.

Items such as soaps, hand creams and fragrances have appeared on the auction site, along with a Molton Brown advent calendar being sold for £125.
