Unbreakable/Split sequel Glass begins shooting

Written by on 05/10/2017

The sequel to M Night Shyamalan’s modern classic Unbreakable has begun shooting, to the delight of the film’s fans.

On Monday, the acclaimed director shared a photo from the set with his fans on Twitter, showing a clapperboard with the film’s title.

"Day 1: Seventeen years in the making #Glass," he wrote.

The film has been Shyamalan’s passion project since the release of Unbreakable 17 years ago. It follows the story of David Dunn, a seemingly common security guard who realises he is nearly indestructible.

The film starred Bruce Willis in the lead role, and Samuel L Jackson as his unlikely foe Mr Glass.

It received rave reviews when it came out, and is widely considered to be the director’s best film.

Last year, after nearly 13 years without a good review, Shyamalan was praised for his multi-personality thriller Split, starring James McAvoy as a psychotic schizophrenic known as The Beast.

The film turned out to be a sequel to Unbreakable, ending with Bruce Willis’ Dunn sitting at a dinner watching the news of The Beast’s killing on TV.

In April, the Sixth Sense director announced the two films were part of a trilogy, which would culminate in 2019 with the release of the third film Glass.

This will see Willis, Jackson and McAvoy reprise their roles in what fans are hoping will be a fitting conclusion to the story.

"Best of luck!!!! Fate is now in motion," one fan wrote.

"Very excited about this! The wait was long, but it might as well have been necessary…," wrote another.

In July, Shyamalan announced American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson was also joining the cast, which will feature Anya Taylor-Joy as The Beast’s sole survivor.

"Incredibly fortunate to round out our iconic cast of actors on #Glass… @MsSarahPaulson will be joining us. #powerhouse," he wrote.

Glass arrives in UK cinemas on 18 January 2019.
