Two Britons among eight dead in Majorca flooding

Two Britons are among at least eight people killed during flooding on the Spanish island of Majorca.
The pair died in a taxi in the town of Sant Llorenc after torrents formed following downpours on the popular holiday island.
Another 12 people have been reported missing.
Local officials have held an emergency meeting to coordinate their response, with 100 rescue workers and 80 soldiers sent to the area.
According to the Majorca Daily Bulletin, people were rescued from roofs and trees after the flooding began on Tuesday evening.
Spanish weather forecasters said 20cm (8in) of rain fell in four hours.
Cars were washed away and homes inundated with more than a metre of water.
Electricity outages hampered rescue efforts owing to a lack of lighting, while phone connections were also cut.
The Foreign Office said in a statement: “We are in contact with the Spanish authorities responding to flooding in Majorca, and urgently seeking updates from them.”
Sant Llorenc, on the east coast of Majorca, has become known as the location for reality TV show Love Island.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez posted on Twitter on Wednesday: “My solidarity and support goes out to the families and friends of victims and all those affected by these tragic floods.”
The Spanish police force also tweeted a message of condolence for those who died, as well as encouragement to those responding to the disaster.
Heavy rain has also brought flooding to other parts of Spain, including Barcelona and the Costa del Sol.
