Tiger Woods nails monster putt to finish joint-second at Valspar Championship

Written by on 12/03/2018

Tiger Woods narrowly missed out on the Valspar Championship, but set up a grandstand finish with a moment of magic late in his final round in Florida.

The 14-time major winner, playing just his fourth PGA Tour event since back surgery, posted a one-under 70 on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort to fall one stroke short of Paul Casey.

Woods held a share of the lead after an opening-hole birdie but found himself two off the pace with three holes play, only to keep his hopes alive on Copperhead’s infamous Snake Pit.

After safely negotiating the 16th with a two-putt par, Woods found the green off the tee at the par-three next but left himself 45 feet from the flag and with what seemed like another tricky two-putt for par.

The former world No 1 had other ideas and drained his monster birdie putt to continue his hopes of a late challenge into the par-four last.
