Three teenagers charged over PC Andrew Harper murder

Written by on 19/09/2019

Three teenagers have been charged with the murder of PC Andrew Harper, who was killed while responding to an alleged burglary in Berkshire.

Henry Long, 18, from Reading, and two 17-year-old boys have been charged over the killing.

PC Andrew Harper, 28, was dragged under a vehicle while responding to reports of a burglary and died of multiple injuries on 15 August.

A Crown Prosecution Service statement said: “As the investigation into PC Andrew Harper’s death continues, the CPS has today authorised Thames Valley Police to charge Henry Long, 18, and two 17-year-old boys with murder and conspiracy to steal a quad bike on 15 August 2019.

“Thomas King, 21, has also been charged with conspiracy to steal a quad bike.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

The three teenagers will appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Thames Valley Police said the latest arrests were the result of “new evidence coming to light”.

Another man, 20-year-old Jed Foster, was earlier charged with murder and theft.

He appeared in court on 21 August and has been remanded in custody.

Foster is due to appear at Reading Crown Court on 20 November.

PC Harper was based at Abingdon in Oxfordshire and had been married for four weeks when he was killed.
