A 19-year-old man has been arrested following a fatal drive-by shooting in Birmingham.
James Teer, 20, was attacked as he played football with friends near his home in Goosemoor Lane, Erdington, last Thursday evening.
West Midlands Police say the arrest is a “major step forward” in the investigation
Police say they have been “working around the clock” since the shooting, examining CCTV and trying to understand a motive for the attack.
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Griffiths said: “James’s family have said that they can’t comprehend what’s happened or understand why anyone would want to harm their son.
“The motive is still unclear so I ask anyone who knew James or has heard any conversations that might help explain what happened to get in touch.
“There will be people in the community who know or suspect why this has happened.”
The man detained, who is from the Alum Rock area of the city, remains in custody following his arrest in Birmingham city centre around 4pm on Tuesday.
Speaking at the time of the shooting, local MP Jack Dromey said the death was a “tragic waste”.
He added: “A car pulled up and apparently from the window of the car, he was shot in the head with a shotgun.
“His family are absolutely devastated over what has happened.”
