A man has been charged with the murder of a woman who went missing in January last year.
Susan Waring, 45, was last seen at a doctor’s surgery in Darwen, Lancashire.
Her body has never been found.
Alan Edwards, of Blackburn Road, Darwen, appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he was charged with her murder, Lancashire Police have said.
Edwards, 47, was initially arrested last March, when detectives confirmed they had launched a murder inquiry following Ms Waring’s disappearance, and released under investigation.
He has also been charged with an alleged indecent assault against a girl aged under 14 as well as 12 alleged offences of assault and two alleged wounding offences.
Edwards was, in addition, charged with one alleged offence of making threats to kill, four alleged counts of rape and one alleged offence of causing a female aged 13 or over to engage in a sexual activity.
The alleged offences relate to three women and one girl between 1998 and 2019, the force said.
Ms Waring was initially thought to have last been seen at about 10pm on 30 January last year, leaving an address on Blackburn Road.
But police said the last corroborated sighting of her was at a doctor’s surgery on James Street West on 16 January.
She is described as being around 5ft 5in tall, of small build, with brown eyes and collar-length curly brown hair.
