Student paramedic dies in ambulance crash in Staffordshire

Written by on 04/07/2019

A student paramedic has died after a crash involving an ambulance and a car.

The 31-year-old woman, who has not been named, was airlifted to hospital but died from her injuries following the collision in Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire on Wednesday evening.

Two other ambulance crew members were hurt in the crash and the driver of the car – a BMW 3 series – is being treated in hospital for a leg injury.

Police are appealing for witnesses of the crash in Needwood to come forward and want to speak to anyone with dashcam footage of the incident.

Anthony Marsh, chief executive of West Midlands Ambulance Service Trust, said: “This is an incident that will affect every member of our staff.

“Our staff deal with difficult incidents every day, but to lose one of your colleagues will always make it that much harder.

“We are very lucky to have so many student paramedics who want to work with us and it is tragic that someone who showed so much promise has died doing the job that they loved.”
