Stokes arrives at Bristol crown court for second day of trial

Written by on 07/08/2018

Ben Stokes has arrived at Bristol crown court for the second day of his trial after being charged with affray.

Stokes is appearing alongside Ryan Hale, 27, and Ryan Ali, 28, who have also been charged with affray.

The three men deny the charges, which have arisen from an incident that occurred outside Mbargo nightclub in Bristol in September.

On Monday – the first day of the trial – the prosecution accused Stokes of mocking two gay men and then knocking two other men unconscious outside the nightclub.

Stokes denies mocking the gay men – Kai Barry and William O’Connor – and instead says Hale and Ali were being homophobic towards the pair.

Following his arrest in September, Stokes was forced to miss England’s Ashes tour of Australia during the winter.

The all-rounder has also been forced to miss England’s Test against India at Lord’s, which begins on Thursday.

Stokes, Hale and Ali are all currently on bail. The trial is expected to last seven days.
