Steph McGovern’s new Channel 4 show taken off air

Steph McGovern’s new Channel 4 show, which has been coming live from her living room, is being taken off air because it “stretched the patience of neighbours”.

The former BBC Breakfast presenter had been due to host The Steph Show, a new live daily lunchtime programme, from a studio in Leeds.
Instead, she has been fronting the show from her home in Harrogate for the past month because of the coronavirus lockdown.
The 37-year-old had been sharing ideas with viewers on how to fill time during self-isolation, as well as celebrating everyday heroes that are keeping the country going during the COVID-19 outbreak.
McGovern tweeted: “As much as I’ve loved doing a lockdown show at home I never expected it to go on this long.
“We’ve decided it’s time to have a break and give my family our home back.”
She added that the programme will properly launch when the Leeds studio is safely up and running, but that she “may still be wearing slippers”.
The last lockdown version of The Steph Show will air on 7 May.
Channel 4 director of programmes Ian Katz said the show was taken off air because “we have stretched the patience of the neighbours a bit too far”.

He said: “We want to wait until we can get into the studio and produce the show we want to make. We will be producing the original Steph Show as soon as possible.”
The programme had been attracting around 160,000 viewers per day – lower than rival shows such as This Morning and Bargain Hunt.
A Channel 4 spokesperson said: “The Steph Show will be back on air later this year when it will be broadcast live from Leeds Dock as always planned.”
