Special postmark to celebrate 100th birthday of inspirational NHS fundraiser Tom Moore

A special postmark has been made to celebrate the birthday of NHS fundraiser Captain Tom Moore.
Mr Moore is due to mark his 100th birthday on 30 April and the postmark will be used on all mail sent from Monday until 1 May.
It reads: “Happy 100th Birthday Captain Thomas Moore NHS fundraising hero 30th April 2020.”
Mr Moore, a Second World War veteran, has raised more than £29m for the NHS by walking laps of the garden at his Bedfordshire home.
His initial aim was to raise £1,000 but this was passed in around 24 hours.
He extended his challenge to 200 laps after he completed the first 100 two weeks ahead of schedule.
More than 1.3 million people have donated on his JustGiving page and his efforts have been praised by politicians, sports stars and celebrities.
There have also been calls for him to be knighted, with nearly a million signatures on an online petition.
He was even part of a chart-topping hit, becoming the oldest person to reach number one.
He has also received a lot of mail from well-wishers, prompting Royal Mail to adapt its sorting machines in the South Midlands Mail Centre to re-route all his post to a dedicated collection box.
More than 100,000 cards have been processed since then and thousands more are expected in the days ahead of Mr Moore’s birthday.

“As Royal Mail works to keep the country connected during these challenging times, we are honoured to issue a special postmark in celebration of his 100th birthday.
“We continued to deliver the many tens of thousands of birthday cards from well-wishers across the UK and abroad as people look to show their gratitude for all he has achieved on a more personal level.”
