South Lakeland towns host climate change meetings

The towns of Grange over Sands and Sedbergh are to host public meetings to explore new ways of tackling climate change.
South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) is redoubling its efforts to address climate change and believes local people have a crucial role to play.
Councillor Dyan Jones, SLDC’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “We want to share ideas with as many people as possible. By working with communities, businesses and local groups we are committed to finding ways to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
“The big question is what can we do? So, if you have any good ideas or suggestions for how we can influence change, please come along to these meetings and have your say.”
The public meeting in Grange over Sands will be held on the afternoon of Friday 7 September at the Victoria Hall. A presentation at 2pm will be followed by questions and debate until 4pm.
On the evening of Wednesday 19 September a public meeting will be held at Sedbergh People’s Hall. The presentation will start at 6pm and the meeting is expected to end at 8pm.
“Locally people may think they’re too insignificant to influence climate change but if everybody gets involved and plays their part we stand a better chance of making a difference,” added Cllr Jones.
Public meetings on climate change were held earlier in the summer in Windermere, Ulverston and Kendal.
