Sonic The Hedgehog: Jim Carrey returns to the 90s in new trailer for Sega star film

The trailer for the live action Sonic the Hedgehog film is finally here – giving fans a first glimpse of Jim Carrey as Dr Robotnik.

The actor seems to have returned to his Ace Ventura roots, embracing the comedic chops that made him a star in the 1990s before he turned to more dramatic roles.
As Sega’s most famous creation is brought to life for the big screen, Carrey fits perfectly as the cartoonish evil villain.
Obviously, it all comes down to everyone’s favourite hedgehog hero to stop his dastardly plans.
Gamers are notoriously protective about their characters, so unsurprisingly the trailer has been met with some criticism online: namely, why does Sonic have human teeth?
And what has Gangsta’s Paradise got to do with anything?
You can take a look for yourselves here.
Carrey, who is also now known for his artwork, posting political drawings on his Twitter account, posted a link to the trailer and said: “I’m glad so many of you are loving my art. I also enjoy acting. Go ahead, sneak a peek!”
Sonic is voiced by Parks And Recreation star Ben Schwartz, while James Marsden plays police officer sidekick Tom Wachowski.
“Basically, it looks like I’m gonna have to save your planet,” Sonic tells the cop, before whizzing off at supersonic speed.
The film follows the blue hedgehog as he and Wachowski join forces to stop Dr Robotnik from taking over the world.
Will they succeed?
Find out when the film comes out in November.
