Sky Sports receive BAFTA nomination for Anthony Joshua’s win over Wladimir Klitschko

Written by on 04/04/2018

Sky Sports has been nominated in the sports category at this year’s BAFTA television awards for its coverage of Anthony Joshua’s Wembley win over Wladimir Klitschko.

Joshua climbed off the canvas to complete an 11th round stoppage victory over Klitschko at the national stadium and Sky Sports covered every angle of the epic world heavyweight title triumph last April.

The nomination list also includes the Six Nations clash between Wales and England, The Grand National, and the UEFA women’s European semi-final between England and the Netherlands.

Sky Sports are hoping to complete a hat-trick of awards for the Joshua-Klitschko fight, having already won its categories at the Royal Television Society and the Broadcast Awards.

Adam Smith, Sky Sports Head of boxing, said: “It’s a most amazing honour to be recognised by the BAFTA committee, and a tribute to the fantastic boxing team who work so hard and so passionately, day in and day out.

“A nomination for Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko is all a bit surreal, but it was the most incredible event we have all worked on.

“Ninety thousand at Wembley, fascinating build-up, high respect between the elite boxers and a fight, and night, we will never forget.”
