Sir Alex Ferguson out of intensive care as he continues recovery from brain surgery

Written by on 10/05/2018

Sir Alex Ferguson is out of intensive care at Salford Royal Hospital as he continues his recovery from brain surgery.

The former Manchester United manager will continue rehabilitation as an inpatient at the hospital after he suffered a brain haemorrhage on Saturday.

A statement from United read: “His family have been overwhelmed by the level of support and good wishes but continue to request privacy as this will be vital during this next stage of recovery.”

Ferguson, who won a record 13 Premier League titles during his tenure at Old Trafford, was taken ill after falling at home.

Earlier on Wednesday, current United manager Jose Mourinho said the club were “very positive” Ferguson would make a full recovery.

When asked whether the club thought Ferguson would make a swift recovery, Mourinho said: “Yeah, we are confident.”

Ferguson’s ill health prompted some of the most reputable figures in the game to offer their well-wishes.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola offered “a big hug”, and added: “Our thoughts are with his wife Cathy and the Manchester United family.”

Arsene Wenger also said: “I just want to say that at Arsenal we care and I would like to wish my fellow manager Ferguson well, very quickly.”

Ferguson was last seen in April when he presented Wenger with a trophy on the Old Trafford pitch to commemorate his 22-year career with Arsenal.
