The Australian star, best known for hits including Chandelier, Cheap Thrills and The Greatest, adopted two 18-year-olds who were “aging out of the care system” in 2019.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on his Apple Music show on Tuesday, the star said her youngest son had “just had two babies”.

“I’m a grandma, I’m a f***ing grandma,” she said.

“They call me Nana,” she said. “I’m trying to get them to call me ‘Lovey’, like Kris [Jenner]. I’m like, ‘Call me Lovey’.”

Sia, who often keeps her face covered to remain anonymous, did not give any details about her grandchildren.

However, she spoke about her experiences adopting her sons, who are black, saying the process “started out as a pretty massive rollercoaster”.

“I’m a little bit jaded now after investigating the foster system as much as I have done in the last year,” she said.

“It’s failing us. Not in my experience, in my sons’ experience; they’ve been in 18 different locations in their 18 years.”

Asked about the Black Lives Matter movement, the star became tearful, saying she is “embarrassed” that it took adopting her sons “to really understand what they go through on a daily basis”.

She continued: “We should be addressing this more than anything else, more than any dumb movie I am putting out, or any music I’ve ever loved.

“I know I’ve only ever experienced white privilege and I know that now and I’m fully aware… now I have these two black sons who tell me how it really is.”
