Shameless actress Tina Malone served summons over ‘image of James Bulger killer’

Written by on 26/01/2019

Shameless actress Tina Malone is facing contempt of court proceedings over a post on social media that purported to show images of James Bulger killer Jon Venables.

The actress said she had been served with a High Court summons and asked for help finding a lawyer.

The Attorney General’s Office has confirmed it sent a summons to Malone.

Malone wrote on Facebook: “I need a lawyer asap!!!! Iv been committed to the high court!!!”

In separate post she wrote: “Iv had a wonderful day till i opened my front door 5mins ago!!! The high court have served me!!”

A court order in England and Wales has banned the publication of anything that reveals the identities of Venables and Robert Thompson.

Malone was accused of retweeting an image of Venables last year and police launched an investigation.

At the time she claimed she was not aware that it was illegal to post images of Venables.

The two men have been living anonymously with new identities since they were released from a life sentence for the kidnap, torture and murder of two-year-old James 25 years ago when they were aged 10.

A spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s Office said: “The Law Officers will review contempt of court allegations made to them, but they cannot comment on the nature of any investigations.

“The Law Officers remind everyone that an injunction is in place which prevents publication of any images or information claiming to identify anyone as Jon Venables or Robert Thompson.”
