Saracens and England forward Billy Vunipola suffered fractured arm on Saturday

Written by on 14/01/2018

Saracens No 8 Billy Vunipola could miss much of the Six Nations after confirmation he suffered a fractured forearm on Saturday.

The Aviva Premiership side are yet to ascertain the length of Vunipola’s absence, but England’s first Six Nations game takes place against Italy in only three weeks, leaving his availability in serious doubt.

Vunipola suffered the injury in Saracens’ 15-15 draw with the Ospreys in their European Champions Cup Pool Two clash on Saturday.

He was playing only his second comeback game after a three-month absence with knee trouble.

“Billy is due to see a specialist later this week, when a time-frame for recovery may be defined,” said a Saracens spokesman.

“But until that time Saracens will make no further comment. Saracens will issue a further statement once Billy has seen a specialist.”

England are already likely to be without Nathan Hughes for the entire Six Nations because of a knee injury, while back-row option James Haskell could be in disciplinary trouble over a high tackle.

Haskell was dismissed during Wasps’ defeat by Harlequins on Saturday and could face a suspension if he is cited over the incident which forced Wales centre Jamie Roberts to leave the game.
