Ronan Keating: Singer told to ‘say nothing at all’ after coronavirus post

Written by on 03/03/2020

Ronan Keating has been trolled with quotes from his own song on social media after he deleted a post about coronavirus that users claimed was misleading.

The Irish singer posted a picture to Instagram on Sunday of ships queuing outside a port in Singapore, and said they weren’t allowed to dock due to COVID-19.

But other social media users were quick to point out that queues of ships were to be expected outside the world’s second-busiest port.

Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority also responded by saying no cargo vessel had been turned away because of the illness, and that “at any one time” there are usually around 1,000 ships in the area.

It then signed off the post with the hashtag #WeCouldntSayNothingAtAll in a jokey reference to the song When You Say Nothing At All, which was Keating’s debut solo single after Boyzone.

The track, which was originally released by country singer Keith Whitley in 1988, was made famous by Keating’s rendition that was used in the film Notting Hill.

Other posts responding to the 43-year-old’s claim over the weekend were more direct in their approach.

“You say it best when you say nothing at all,” Instagram user Gweezilla wrote.

Keating’s original post has since been deleted and the star has not commented further.

He had performed at an event in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday, but it was not clear if he was in Singapore when he posted the picture.

Singapore has recorded just over 100 cases of COVID-19.
