Roma charged by UEFA over alleged racist chanting at Chelsea

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Roma over the alleged racist behaviour of their fans during Wednesday’s 3-3 Champions League draw at Chelsea.
Some of the Roma fans allegedly made monkey chants during the match and the Italian club have been charged under Article 14 of the Disciplinary Regulations.
The alleged offensive chants were aimed at Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, a former Roma player who was the victim of racist chants from rival fans during his time in Italy.
Video emerged on social media on Thursday which purported to show Roma fans abusing Rudiger in the 89th minute.
A statement from European football’s governing body on Friday morning read: "Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League group stage match between Chelsea FC and AS Roma (3-3), played on 18 October in England."
UEFA said the charge was "racist behaviour (monkey chants)", adding: "This case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 16 November."
Rudiger has spoken out against racist chanting in the past and, after joining Chelsea, he called for stronger measures to be taken against offenders.
"I just want justice," he said. "I want FIFA or the FA in Italy to suspend those people who do that.
"Those people need to be banned from the stadium or fined."
