Robert De Niro will be making bread lovers an offer they can’t refuse, after agreeing to appear in the latest Warburtons advert.
The two-time Oscar winner, famed for his roles in Goodfellas, Raging Bull and the Godfather Part II, can now count the Lancashire-based bakery firm among his list of credits.
The Hollywood heavyweight plays an amalgam of his famous gangster parts in the advert, which has been titled GoodBagels.
De Niro and his mob attempt to thwart Warburtons’ bagel sales in favour of their New York products in the commercial.
The actor’s character and his accomplices are seen tying up security guards and relabelling Warburtons’ products as “GoodBagels”.
The company’s chairman Jonathan Warburton, who plays himself in the advert, is oblivious to their plans and believes the actor is delivering the pitch for a new film.
The commercial, which is set in Bolton, ends with the movie star announcing that his story ends “not well”.
It will appear on UK TV screens from 17 May.
Robert De Niro said: “It was a pleasure to fly to the UK to film this ad with the Warburtons family, and star alongside Jonathan.
“Getting into the bagel business has been great fun, and I hope everyone enjoys the final cut.”
Company chairman Mr Warburton said: “As an iconic New Yorker, Robert De Niro knows his way around a bagel so it’s great to have his seal of approval.
“We’ve spent months perfecting the recipe and process to ensure we delight families up and down the country with the best thing since sliced bread.”
The British baking brand has previously attracted the talents of Sylvester Stallone and Peter Kay.
