Rare murder investigation on Shetland Islands after body found outside house
Written by News on 31/07/2019
Police on Shetland have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman.
Tracey Anderson – also known as Tracy Walker – was found dead in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It is only the third time in the last 50 years that a murder inquiry has taken place on the islands off the Scottish mainland.
Two people, a man aged 31 and a 27 year-old woman, have been arrested in connection with Ms Walker’s death.
The 40-year-old was found outside a house in Lerwick, Shetland’s main town, at 2.05am.
Emergency services were called but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Inspector Ross Fitzgerald of the Police Scotland Major Investigation Team said: “Our enquiries remain ongoing and are at a relatively early stage.
“However, I would take the opportunity to stress there is no apparent risk to the wider community.
“A significant police presence is likely to remain in the area during the coming days, with officers from the local policing team in Lerwick working with specialist colleagues from the Major Investigations Team.
“We are grateful to the local community for their understanding while this investigation continues.”
