A Metropolitan Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of being a member of a proscribed organisation linked to right-wing terrorism.
The 21-year-old constable was arrested in north London and taken to a police station in the south of the capital, where he is still in custody.
Met Police confirmed the arrest “relates to suspected membership of a proscribed organisation linked to right wing terrorism”.
Searches are also being carried out at the address in north London.
The Met’s directorate of professional standards has been informed and the officer’s status is “under review”.
“The matter has also been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) as a mandatory referral,” added the police’s statement.
Met Police said there was currently nothing to suggest a wider threat to the public.
