Pensioner crashes £92,000 Porsche through wall and onto underpass

A pensioner crashed his Porsche 911 Targa through a wall and fence before nose-diving onto a pedestrian underpass below.
The 73-year-old’s sports car was severely damaged, with its bonnet, front end bodywork and front windscreen smashed on Southway in Colchester, Essex at around 6pm on Thursday.
Neither the driver nor anyone else was injured in the collision, which left the vehicle hanging over a low wall in an almost vertical position with its front end resting on the walkway, surrounded by rubble.
Roads policing sergeant Colin Shead tweeted photographs of the incident and said the driver will be offered a fitness to drive course. He added that the DVLA has been notified.
The pictures show the hole the black high-performance car left in the wall and that it had cleared a gap before toppling over a second wall and falling around 12ft onto the pedestrian underpass below.
The car, which retails for around £92,000 including VAT, was lifted out by a crane.
A witness told the Daily Mail: “It looks as though the car’s been parked and whoever’s got in has just gone straight through the wall. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Drivers aged 70 and over have to renew their driving licences once every three years.
As part of the process, they have to be assessed by their GP who will determine whether they are medically fit to continue to drive.
