Written by on 27/05/2019

Long-running Channel 4 sitcom Peep Show is to be remade with female actors in the lead roles.

One of its writers, Sam Bain, wrote in a newspaper article that a “script (is) in development for a US Peep Show with two female leads”.

The British version, starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, ran from 2003 until 2015 and is Channel 4’s longest-running comedy in terms of years on air.

It follows the lives of two dysfunctional friends – Mark Corrigan, played by Mitchell, and Jeremy “Jez” Usborne, played by Webb, who share a flat in Croydon, south London.

Writing in The Guardian, Bain wrote: “What would Peep Show have been like with women as the two leads?

“It’s a great question – and it’s one I’ll shortly have the answer to, because there is a script in development for a US Peep Show with two female leads.

“It’s at FX Networks and it will be written by top comedy brain Karey Dornetto.”

In an article about diversity in comedy, he added: “Ultimately, the best way of building gender inclusivity into scripts is to get women to write them.”
