Parents get official telling off for SATs tweets

Written by on 12/05/2017

Parents have been told off by the Department for Education after tweeting answers from their children’s SATs exams.

Primary school pupils across the country are in the process of taking the national curriculum tests but some parents were unhappy with the questions they were tested on.

One, Matt Thrower, asked on Twitter whether a question on his daughter’s maths test about Roman numerals was relevant.

:: Could you pass SATs? Take our test

He received a reply from the Department for Education’s Twitter account saying: "Hi, can you please remove the tweet referring to SATs? We’re trying to maintain the confidentiality & integrity of ongoing tests."

It wrote: "Some children will be taking the KS2 tests next week using timetable variations. Please help us to keep the test content secure. Thank you."

But he wrote back: "Happy to, once you remove such absurd and pointless questions from your tests."

Another parent was upset that his daughter had been asked how to spell a word with more than one spelling but was not given a definition.

About a dozen other people complained about the tests and were asked to delete their tweets, which they seem to have done.

Officials are keeping an especially close eye on social media to prevent cheating in the tests.
