Parents and toddler injured after acid attack in north London

Written by on 10/04/2017

A father, mother and their two-year-old son have suffered burns following an acid attack in north London.

The family were targeted in Islington on Saturday afternoon.

Although the mother and toddler have been discharged from hospital after being treated for minor burns, the father’s injuries are described as "life changing".

According to the London Fire Brigade, both parents suffered 15% burns to their hands and bodies, while the infant was burnt on his face.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "The victims – a 40-year-old father, 36-year-old mother and their two-year-old boy – were found with injuries consistent with a noxious substance, believed to be an acid, being thrown at them."

The liquid used in the attack had a PH reading of one, and tests have confirmed it was a strong acid and oxidizing substance.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the attack, which happened at the junction of Copenhagen Street and Caledonian Road at 1.05pm on Saturday.
