NBA round-up: Danny Green buzzer-beater lifts Toronto Raptors to victory over Orlando Magic

Danny Green hit a buzzer-beating jump shot to earn Eastern Conference leaders the Toronto Raptors a dramatic 93-91 victory over the Orlando Magic.

Danny Green hit a six-foot jump shot at the buzzer to give the Toronto Raptors a 93-91 road victory over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night.

The winning shot off a pass from Kyle Lowry came after Evan Fournier tied the game for Orlando on a dunk with 2.3 seconds to play.

Kawhi Leonard led Toronto with 18 points, Pascal Siakam had 15 points and nine rebounds, Serge Ibaka had 14 points and nine rebounds and Green scored 13.

Fournier led Orlando with 27 points, Aaron Gordon had 16 points and nine rebounds and Nikola Vucevic had 14 points and 18 rebounds.

The Magic, who trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half, had a two-point lead entering the fourth quarter but opened the final period going 1-for-11 from the field.

Toronto led by only a single point with five minutes remaining. Fournier’s floating jumper with 3:25 left tied the game at 85.

The Raptors opened the lead to four, only to have Orlando tie it at 89.

Ibaka’s 17-footer gave Toronto the lead again with 43.5 seconds to play, but Fournier tied the game before Green’s buzzer-beater sealed the Magic’s fate.

Portland Trail Blazers 118-114 New York Knicks

CJ McCollum scored 13 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter helping the Portland Trail Blazers to a 118-114 road victory over the New York Knicks.

Damian Lillard added 29 points as Portland came back from a 10-point deficit and outscored the Knicks 53-39 in the final 19:15.

McCollum made 13 of 23 shots and posted his third game of at least 30 points this season as Portland won for the sixth time in eight games.

Tim Hardaway Jr scored 32 points but his third straight game of at least 30 points was not enough for the Knicks, who dropped their sixth straight despite shooting 50.6 per cent.

McCollum scored 10 points in the opening minutes of the fourth after Portland closed out the third with a 24-10 run. He expanded an 89-85 lead to 104-93 by hitting two three-pointers, a 22ft jumper and a lay-up but Portland had to sweat out the ending.

New York answered with a 10-2 run to get within 106-103, and it was 111-109 when Hardaway banked in a lay-up with 2:07 left. McCollum answered with a three-pointer on the next possession, but Hardaway sank three foul shots.

Portland clinched it when Evan Turner moved around a maze of bodies in the low post and converted the put-back of Lillard’s missed 14-footer with nine seconds left.

Los Angeles Clippers 118-125 Washington Wizards

John Wall scored 30 points and Bradley Beal added 27 as the Washington Wizards rallied from 24 points down in the first half to defeat the visiting Los Angeles Clippers 125-118.

Reserve Jeff Green scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting for the Wizards and Otto Porter Jr contributed 11 points and 14 rebounds.

The Wizards trailed by nine to start the fourth quarter, and Wall’s three-pointer with 8:12 left cut the deficit to 101-97.

Back-to-back threes by Green soon pulled the Wizards within two points, and Markieff Morris (12 points) hit a corner three to give Washington their first lead, 110-109, since the opening minutes.

Green’s dunk off a feed from Morris made it 119-113 with 1:16 remaining, and Morris soon added two free throws to cap an 8-0 run.

Tobias Harris had 29 points and nine rebounds for Los Angeles, who had won their five previous game. Montrezl Harrell scored 20 off the bench and had nine rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 94-92 Miami Heat

D’Angelo Russell scored 20 points as the Brooklyn Nets sent the Miami Heat to their fifth straight home loss with a 104-92 road win. It is Miami’s worst home skid since 2014.

The Nets, who had lost four of their past five games, also got 13 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks from Jarrett Allen. Russell added nine rebounds and six assists and had eight of his points in the fourth quarter.

Spencer Dinwiddie led Brooklyn’s bench with 16 points and a game-high seven assists.

Hassan Whiteside led Miami with 21 points, 23 rebounds – both game highs – and two blocks. Josh Richardson added 16 points, and Rodney McGruder scored 15 points.

But the Heat shot just 36.0 per cent from the floor – their worst marksmanship of the season.

Miami’s Dwyane Wade, who missed seven games on an extended paternity leave, played his first game since November 5 and provided five points, two rebounds and two assists in 14 minutes off the bench.

But the Heat played without starting point guard Goran Dragic for the second straight game. The Heat announced he will miss the next two games as well due to a knee injury.
