Musician Angela Hewitt devastated after movers destroy her £150,000 grand piano

A Canadian concert pianist has said she is heartbroken after removal workers dropped and destroyed her £150,000 grand piano.
In a post on Facebook, Angela Hewitt said she feels “ready now to share a very sad piece of news” after the initial shock left her feeling like she “didn’t immediately want to share it with the world”.
She said the calamity happened about 10 days ago in Berlin while she was feeling “elated” having just finished her latest recording.
“The piano movers came into the control room (where I was finishing up with my producer) to say they had dropped my precious Fazioli concert grand piano,” she wrote.
Hewitt said she “adored” the piano and called it her “best friend”.
The value of the piano – a unique Fazioli F278 with four pedals – is believed to be around £150,000. It weighs 590kg (93 stone).
She said she had been using it since 2003 for all her recordings in Europe – but it’s now a write-off.
“The iron frame is broken, as well as much else in the structure and action (not to mention the lid and other parts of the case). It makes no sense, financially or artistically, to rebuild this piano from scratch. It’s kaputt,” said Hewitt.
The pianist said the removal workers were “mortified” and it was the first time in 35 years such an accident had happened.
Hewitt said she is planning to get a new one once the insurance is sorted but that it may take a few months.
