Nathan Cleverly plans to upset the odds and defeat hometown fighter Badou Jack on the undercard to what he calls a "history-making" and extra special" occasion.
WBA ‘regular’ light-heavyweight champion Cleverly makes the first defence of his belt this weekend on the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor undercard against Jack, who is stepping into a new weight division after reigning as WBC super-middleweight title-holder.
Cleverly is delighted to be on the big stage and to be facing Jack on the latter’s home turf, and the 30-year-old has vowed to produce an entertaining performance befitting of the occasion.
"It’s great to be here and part of this history-making event in my favourite city. In its own terms it’s a big fight, but to be part of this event is massive, on a personal level, it is a special occasion for me.
"Badou is a tough, top fighter and consistent at the top level with a good resume, but he is fighting a two-time light-heavyweight champion of the world, this is my eighth world title fight.
"I’m experienced and ready, I think this will be a great fight and the fight of the night on the undercard."
"This is extra special, I went to Germany and ripped the title away there and now, on the biggest stage, I am ready to upset the home fighter again."
