Man’s stabbing death is fifth killing in London in just six days

A man has died after a triple stabbing in north London – the fifth killing in the capital in just six days.

The man, aged in his 30s, was among three people taken to hospital after police were called to reports of a fight in Barnet at 10.50pm on Tuesday.

The two other injured men – one in his 20s and another in his 30s – are not in a life-threatening condition, the Metropolitan Police said.

No arrests have been made.

:: On Friday afternoon, one young man was stabbed in Wandsworth and another was shot in Plumstead

Arrests have been made in all but the Tower Hamlets and Stratford cases.

There were also two men injured in shootings in Tulse Hill and Leytonstone during the same period.

London’s mayor Sadiq Khan has been the focus of criticism over the violence but he has blamed cuts in policing, saying that the city has fewer police officers “than at any time since 2003”.

Paying tribute to the efforts of officers, Mr Khan said: “This weekend they’ve cancelled leave, worked 12-hour shifts, cancelled rest days – they’re under-resourced, overstretched and working incredibly hard.

“We’ve lost thousands of police staff, more than 40 youth clubs, many teachers and cuts made in public services, in preventative services.

“Even the Home Office’s own civil servants say there is a link between massive cuts in police resources and an increase in violent crime.”
