A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murdering an elderly man in his home in Sutton Coldfield.
Paramedics were called to the residence of a 72-year-old pensioner in the early hours of Wednesday.
The victim had suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital in nearby Birmingham, but later died.
A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “We were called at 02:18 to a property in Stonehouse Road in Sutton Coldfield. We sent two ambulances to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found one patient, a man, in a serious condition.
“They administered advanced life support on scene before taking him on blue lights to hospital. Sadly, despite the best efforts of staff, he was confirmed dead a short time after arriving at hospital.”
Detectives said a 21-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody as inquiries continue.
A post-mortem is set to take place in due course and the victim’s next of kin are being identified.
Detective Inspector Nick Barnes said: “We are still exploring the circumstances surrounding this tragic death and I would appeal for anyone who was in the Stonehouse Road area of Sutton Coldfield or the Sutton Park Hotel pub on Tuesday night and heard or saw anything suspicious to come and speak to us.”
Police can be contacted on 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
