Make Boxing Day a classic! Come and join the Lakeland Motor Museum’s big holiday bash

Has your motoring pride and joy got what it takes to win the coveted “Best of Boxing Day” Trophy at the Lakeland Motor Museum’s traditional Boxing Day event?
There’s only one way to find out – drive on down to the museum on Boxing Day and join other classic and vintage car lovers at the Classic Drive and Ride In Day.
Last year’s event saw around 150 vehicles gather at the Backbarrow attraction – which is open to owners of classic cars, trucks, vans and motorbikes, as well as more recent hot hatches, superminis and high-performance sports cars.
It’s become a Boxing Day tradition which attracts scores of classic and vintage vehicle lovers. Chris Lowe, Curator at the Museum says: “You don’t have to own a classic vehicle to attend, just simply come along and join in the fun. You can view the private cars on display, take a visit to the museum or grab some refreshments at the riverside Cafe Ambio. Everyone is welcome to attend.”
The eventual trophy winner last year was a classic 1969 Land Rover converted into a fire engine and owned by 26-year-old Kieran Hall from Ulverston.
Kieran took home the specially made “Best of Boxing Day” trophy which is something of a classic itself. It was created from a vintage Hohm engine that was part of the Museum’s reserve collection. It was cleaned up, mounted on a wooden plinth and turned into the trophy. Previous winners of the Best of Boxing Day trophy include a 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom and an American 1939 Ford 85 Bullnose truck.
There is no need to book and there is plenty of free parking for owners to display their pride and joy. Participating drivers and their passengers will also receive vouchers for discount admission to the museum itself.
This year’s Boxing Day Classic Drive and Ride In Day is on Monday, December 26 from 10am to 1pm.
The Lakeland Motor Museum, at Backbarrow, has over 30,000 exhibits including over 140 classic cars and motorbikes. It also has an extensive Campbell Bluebird Exhibition, housed in its own building, paying tribute to the high-speed careers of Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell.
