Luke Jobson: Five teenagers arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after body found in river

Written by on 29/01/2019

Five teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a body was found in a river in North Yorkshire.

Police confirmed Luke Jobson, 22, was found in the river in Yarm after he went missing on Saturday morning.

Five teenagers came forward to assist detectives with their inquiries yesterday, while police searched for missing Mr Jobson.

Two 18-year-olds and two 16-year-olds were released under investigation, while an 18-year-old remains in custody facing questioning.

Cleveland Police said: “Five males who came forward (after police appeals for information on the circumstances leading up to the discovery of Luke’s body) have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

“We are aware of various rumours and speculation circulating on social media but we would stress that sharing these further can be very distressing for Luke’s family as well as being unhelpful to our ongoing inquiries.”

As the appeal to find Mr Jobson grew, officers had to ask members of the public not to turn up to help, telling them to leave the work to trained professionals.

Detectives are investigating whether there was an altercation outside the Keys pub in Yarm before Mr Jobson went missing.

The 22-year-old was seen at the Keys pub before going to the Osbournes pub, and was last seen near Yarm School at 2.15am. He was wearing black jeans and a grey polo shirt.

Mr Jobson’s family and friends issued pleas across social media and have paid tribute to him since it was confirmed he died.

His girlfriend said she was “living in an absolute nightmare”.

His grandmother described him as a “kind gentle loving young man who was loved by many”.

A tribute is planned for the 22-year-old, with family asking for people to hang a message on a ribbon at Yarm Wharf and pause to remember him from 7pm.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to support the family.

Police carried out CCTV and door-to-door enquiries and have asked anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.
