London stabbings: Woman paralysed after spinal cord severed

Written by on 05/04/2019

One of five people recently stabbed in north London has been paralysed after her spinal cord was severed, a court has heard.

The 45-year-old woman is said to have been the first victim in a series of assaults between Saturday and Tuesday.

In the most recent incident, a man in his 30s was left in a critical condition after being stabbed in Fairfield Road in Edmonton.

Jason Kakaire, 29, from Cameron Close in Edmonton, has been charged with five counts of attempted murder and five counts of possession of an offensive weapon.

“The severity of the injuries inflicted varied, with the most seriously injured victim suffering a severed spinal cord causing paralysis,” prosecutor Harika Yuksel told Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court.

The other three victims were also stabbed in the Edmonton area.

Kakaire was remanded in custody and is due before the Old Bailey on 3 May.
