Written by on 30/01/2019

Three teenagers have been arrested after a 17-year-old was stabbed to death in Islington, north London.

Officers were called to reports of an assault at 6.49pm on Tuesday and the victim, who has not yet been formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they are confident they know the identity of the boy who died and that his next of kin have been informed.

Following the incident the road was cordoned off to the public as emergency services and police vans attended the incident.

A post-mortem examination and formal identification are expected to take place in due course.

Two boys – aged 16 and 17 – were arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder. They were taken into custody at separate police stations in north London.

The third man – aged 18 – was also arrested on suspicion of murder at a property in Islington following police inquiries. He also remains in custody.

Reacting to the incident, Islington Council leader Richard Watts tweeted: “I’m horrified to learn about the fatal stabbing in the Caledonian Road area this evening.

“I’m in touch with @IslingtonBC officers, @MPSIslington and the @MayorofLondon’s office. All my thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.”

On Twitter, Islington Police said a Section 60 stop and search order, allowing officers to search anyone in a given area, was in place until 3am on Wednesday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to call 101 quoting reference 6320/jan29. Information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A crime scene remains in place and police inquiries continue.
