Background

Storm Deirdre causing disruption on roads across Cumbria

Written by on 15/12/2018

Cumbria Police report road closures, speed restrictions and urge for driving with caution as Storm Deirdre continues to create hazardous conditions on roads, paths and fells across the county

A66

The A66 from Penrith Kemplay Roundabout to Bowes has had to be closed again in both direction due to the continued adverse cold weather creating dangerous road conditions.  This sections of the A66 will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

There will be congestion around these areas and drivers are asked to allow for delay and to plan their journey accordingly.

M6

The M6 has speed restrictions of 30mph in place from J42 to J38, in both directions. This follows multiple road traffic collisions between these junctions. Drivers should expect delays whilst taking this route.

Roads

The Police are dealing with multiple road traffic collisions right across Cumbria where the weather has been a contributing factor. They are advising that drivers DO NOT use any roads over 200 meters in Cumbria today and overnight. Drivers are also reminded to drive to the road conditions in front of them, potential hazards may not be as visible on the roads overnight and black ice may not be obvious.
