Kendal Town Council supports Festivals programme

Written by on 24/02/2021

Kendal Town Council will continue to support the town’s vibrant festivals scene, despite the setbacks of Covid.

Chair of the Town Council’s Christmas Lights and Festivals Committee, Cllr Shirley Evans said ‘It’s important that we recognize how much these festivals contribute to the vibrancy of our town.

We’ll continue to do everything we can to support them and develop the town’s vitality’.

Cllr Evans’ committee paid special tribute to the innovative work done by the Mountain Festival, the Comic Art Festival and the Torchlight Festival in 2020, developing an online presence with a global reach, and in the case of Torchlight, bringing the displays to the streets where people were locked down.

The Committee confirmed that it will continue to fund a range of festivals and events in the town in 2021, including the Comic Art, Mountain and Torchlight festivals.

Council funding was also allocated to the Wool Gathering, the Kendal Poetry Festival, the Kendal Opera Festival, the Unity Festival, the Mary Wakefield Festival, the Kendal Festival Chorus and the Christmas Tree festival.

Cllr Evans added ‘we’re keen to work with anyone in the town who is developing an event or festival programme. It’s something the town is known for, and the Town Council is privileged to be able to play a role in developing it’.

Event organisers can still apply for a small development grant for 2021. Contact office@kendaltowncouncil.gov.uk for details.
