Police in Spain have launched an investigation after footage appeared to show Liverpool fans pushing locals into a fountain in Barcelona.
A second clip appears to show a British supporter racially abusing another man who has just climbed out of the water.
Hundreds of fans have travelled to the city for the Merseyside club’s Champions League clash against Barcelona.
Supporters were said to have been out drinking on Tuesday when the video was taken.
The clip shows a stocky man with grey hair creeping up on someone before lifting them by the legs and dropping them in the fountain.
The man was holding several cans and appears to be a street seller in Placa Reial.
Merseyside Police has confirmed it is working with officers in Barcelona and has described the suspect as a Liverpool fan.
A second video shows a different man dripping wet after apparently climbing out of the fountain.
He then approaches a group of men who can be seen laughing in the square.
A British man then appears to make a racist remark at him.
Superintendent Paul White said: “We are liaising with Spanish police, the British Embassy, UEFA, the Football Intelligence Unit in Merseyside and Liverpool Football Club, who are all working to keep fans safe and ensure an enjoyable experience in Barcelona.
“We want to reassure the public that we can potentially act on any criminal matters dealt with by Spanish police by utilising football legislation in the UK.
“This type of behaviour is wholly unacceptable.”
Liverpool CEO Peter Moore tweeted that fans should behave with “grace” in Barcelona after the footage emerged.
He wrote: “We proudly sing that we’ve conquered all of Europe. But let’s treat this beautiful city with the respect that it deserves, and act in a manner that is befitting of LFC.
“By all means have a good time, but we are Liverpool, and as such, let’s visit here with grace and humility.”
Liverpool FC said in a statement: “Liverpool Football Club is working with Merseyside Police and the authorities in Spain, who are endeavouring to identify those involved in the incident.
“Such behaviour is clearly totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further while the situation is ongoing other than to confirm the club will follow due process in any and all cases of this nature.”
Merseyside Police has confirmed six men were arrested by Spanish police on Tuesday night on suspicion of public order offences after an unrelated incident.
Spanish daily sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo has reported that two hotel workers were assaulted and two other people were injured after a fight broke out in Barcelona.
It is not clear if they arrests are linked to the alleged incident.
